Winter Relief for dry skin

Hi Dolls, I know I've been on a bit of a blogging hiatus, but I've been hella busy of course with good things. So winter skin can sometimes be a b*tch. Here are some tips to hydrate your skin getting and ridding your self of dry, chapped skin for the rest of the winter months

1. Mix in a body oil with you moisturizer -
Double the moisture, oils rapidly hydrate the skin try Mango Melange Bath and Body Oil. This duo will leave your skin feeling sliky smooth and less like Tyrone Bigums in minutes.
2. Exfoliate skin and face every 2 weeks--
The harsh winter weather dulls your complexion completely depleting that summer glow. A good exfoliator rejuvenates
the skin bringing back a bright and radiant complexion. For your body try Aromatherapy- Sugar Body Scrub in Tranquil Mint. Also a good way to end the night. For your face try Korres- Thyme Honey Scrub I love this soft creamy scrub its gentle with aloe and wheat germ oil it soothes the skin while protecting it.

3. Mother Knows best --
When all else fails two things my mother always has handy is Aquaphor and Vaseline slather either over your knees, elbows, heels, and hand even you face my mother uses vaseline and places a hot towel over her face to remove all the dirt and make up from her face and she has the best skin and complexion.

Beauty Post - Carol's Daughter Almond Cookie Sea Salt Scrub

So we haven't done a beauty post in a while :) sorry for the inconsistency I have been trying to settle in to a new schedule with my new job and just prepping for the holiday's :)

So tonight I tried Carol's Daughter Almond Cookie Sea Salt and I must say I truly fell in love with the product. Since its starting to get cold ( if you live in NY you know how fickle the weather is) my skin has been extremely dry, and I have been looking for something to remove dead skin. Just to give my self a healthy glow. I knew I didn't want something that was extremely harsh or contained many chemicals since I have very sensitive skin.

After I used the body scrub I immediately felt the difference in my skin it feels smoother, and looks much healthier not dry, dull or rough at all. The scent is soft and subtle not at all overwhelming.

I am thinking about the Almond Cookie Collection as a present for my mom for Christmas or maybe even myself. If I do get it I'll let you know if its worth the $$.

Rocking a Red lip Correctly

So I've received a couple emails, even had conversations with numerous friends about wearing red lipstick or other colors. Some women stick to sheer glosses because they have a common misconception that color is not appropriate for women of a darker complexion. Wearing a red lip can be sultry and seductive when done correctly. It speaks volumes about the boldness of your personality, and confidence as a woman. However if done incorrectly, can have you looking like Wesley Snipes in To Wong Foo.... that is what i would like to call the EPIC FAIL.

Here is s step by step to wearing a red lip correctly.

Step 1 Exfoliate: It is imperative, think of it like building the appropriate foundation. Exfoliate your lips, peeling lips are no good, especially with a red lip. When I see young women like that, it reminds me of my grandmother who always had white specks of skin mixed in her lipstick as she attempted to kiss me.
There are certain tricks to the trade, I have learned from my mother, fellow beauty maven, over the years. Take an old toothbrush and take a small amount of sugar place it on your lips. Take the old toothbrush and gently brush your lips. After 5-10 minutes, rinse the sugar from your lip. You now have a smooth canvas to start with. If you do not want to use sugar or an old toothbrush, try Lip Strip Cooling Sugar Scrub by Laura Geller, $18.

Step 2 Primer: Like any painter knows, primer is necessary. If you do not have lip primer in your beauty arsenal, improvise. Take a small amount of foundation and blend into your Lip . Do not worry about the appearance of your lip; it is key to remember you are building a foundation. Foundation / primer acts as a filling agent. Filling in the tiny lines creating the illusion of a plumper fuller lip. If you are looking for a good primer to use try Big Mouth Primer by Philosophy

Step 3 Choosing your color: There is no perfect shade of red, more or less pick a red that complements the look you are trying to achieve to suit your personality, and complexion. There are a variety of hues to choose from; do not limit your self. Personally, I like to mix and match to create that perfect and unique signature blend of red. Then decide on a matte or glossy finish.

Step 4 Blot: Remove the excess red; don't stain those pearly whites! To finish off this look, many say put a thin layer of Vaseline over your teeth since the petroleum acts like a barrier. One trick that works for me is taking a pea size amount of toothpaste and rubbing it over my teeth. It leaves my breath feeling minty and fresh, and not thinking about red lipstick on my teeth.

Step 5 No "Bozo the Clown": A red lip is bold and vibrant to stand alone; no need to over accentuate with tons of eye shadow. Mascara and eye-liner does the trick with this look. Simplicity is key.

These Lips Were Made For...

Besides a female's (ass)ets or bosom, I think that the favorite part of the female body, to a guy, would be her lips. From the way they shine, to the way the taste, to them being completely bare and kissable...Lips are the sh*t! I found some lips that looked so hot (pause) that I had to share. I love the art of the lipstick and how different colors and props were used in these photos. Although some of these lips wouldn't be ideal for just going out on a regular day, or even a date, it would be cool just to experiment or even have a little photo shoot.

I ♥ the heart, very creative!

*The pink lip gloss is so girl and innocent. It definitely says "I may look good but..."

*Can we say SMOKING! I mean literally. The smoke just adds a bad-a** attribute to the photo, and we all know a red lip is daring ;-)

*The ICE Princess lip is very daring and although I do necessarily think may people go for it, it would be an interesting look.

*Once again we see a bubblegum pink lip. This lip has a more glamorous side to it than the other, and that gloss is definitely poppin'!

*Last but not least we have a simple pink lip that is just about a shade and a half darker than naturally pink lips. This would be good if you just want to go for a subtle natural look.

*Then we have an olive lip. Which is a classic color and looks even more fabulous when you have a pearl in your mouth [lol].

Well there you have, go out and buy a new color lipstick/gloss today, it'll be funny and is a great way to accessorise an outfit!

Live life.

10 Cosmetic Uses For Everyday Food

A part of being a girl is the need to pamper ourselves. Unfortunately for some, that may be a little costly. What I have found is ten ways to feel and look good using household items. Feeling and looking good doesn't always have to come at the expense of your wallet. From body scrubs, to using tea bags to get rid of the bags under your eyes, here are some fabulous remedies and tips:

1. Egg White Mask. You can either save your leftover egg whites for an omelet or angel food cake, or use them for your next facial. Just one white, beaten until smooth, is enough to cover your face. As with other masks, let it dry completely, then rinse off. It will leave you feeling refreshed, and your skin will be noticeably more taut.

2. Oatmeal Face Wash. Oatmeal has calming properties that soothe the skin and help reduce redness. It can be used in a variety of ways, from a body wash to a mask, but the most basic is this simple face wash: Mix together equal parts warm honey and lemon juice, then stir in three parts instant oatmeal until it turns into a paste. Apply to your face, then wash off with warm water.

3.
Vinegar Hair Cleaner. Swap your conditioner for vinegar twice a month and you’ll get rid of any nasty buildup, as well as improve your hair’s silkiness and shine. Seriously. Don’t use dark or expensive vinegars; stick to cider or white wine vinegar for less strain on the wallet and better results. But don’t do this more than a few times a month or you’ll risk drying out your hair.

4.
Honey and Brown Sugar Scrub. Fill a jar about two-thirds full with honey, add a scoop of brown sugar and one halved vanilla bean, and mix. Keep this in the shower and use it as a body scrub that will leave you smelling nice and feeling smooth.

5. Lemon Juice Lightener. Beach-goers have been doing this for years to lighten their locks. Just combine the juice of half a lemon with a handful of leave-in conditioner (which is less goopy than regular conditioner), spread on your hair, and comb through, then wash out. (Note: Highlighted or color-treated hair should be spared this homemade remedy, which could make your hair look brassy.) Many people also apply lemon juice directly to age spots to bleach them out, though this should be avoided on sensitive skin because lemon juice is highly acidic.

6.
Coffee: Scrub and Shine-Maker. Your leftover coffee grounds can clog your drain or, if you’re feeling adventurous, be used as an invigorating scrub. For more details, check out this CHOW Tip. Needless to say, avoid doing this if you have sensitive skin. Leftover brewed coffee can also be mixed with some coffee grounds and conditioner to help increase shine in dark hair.

7.
Tea Bag Eye Rejuvenator. The quintessential home cosmetic remedy is using cucumber slices on the eyes to reduce puffiness. While that certainly works, brewed black tea bags are even more effective. Place them on your eyes (which should be closed, of course) and let the tannins work their magic—about five minutes should do the trick.

8.
Baking Soda Teeth Cleaner. Mix one teaspoon of baking soda with a quarter teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide for one of the most basic forms of tooth care that exists. It’ll clean your teeth (some would argue better than store-bought toothpaste), but you’ll be missing out on the minty freshness. Of course, you could just go totally au naturel and gnaw a bit of spearmint for that.

9.
Oil Moisturizer. Take a page from many a Mediterranean grandmother: Olive oil works fabulously as a lotion. Use too much and you’ll smell like pasta, but in small doses it works wonders as a daily lotion or massage oil. If olive oil isn’t your thing, sesame oil (regular not toasted), peanut oil, almond oil, and argan oil work too.

10.
Cornstarch Bath Powder. Superabsorbent and extremely fine, cornstarch is the kitchen equivalent of baby powder and can be used in the same way. Combine it with a few leaves of a nice-smelling dried herb (rosemary, lavender, or sage, for instance) and pulse it in the food processor until evenly mixed. Sift out any large stray leaf bits, transfer to a container with a shake top (like an old baby powder bottle), and use to freshen up anything from your body to your sneakers.
